London Boat Show reveals Mediterranean Bay activities

Motorboat & Yachting: The organisers of the 2016 London Boat Show have revealed more details about their new Mediterranean Bay attraction.

Back in October when we first previewed the 2016 London Boat Show, the new feature that really caught our imagination was the Mediterranean Bay.

A throwback to the days when the London Boat Show was held at Earls’ Court, this seemed like a great development.

Now, with less than a month to go until the doors of the Excel Centre are flung open to boating enthusiasts on January 8, organisers British Marine Boat Shows have given us more juicy details.

Located in the South West corner of the Excel Centre’s South Hall, the Mediterranean Bay will span an area measuring 500m2.

Visitors to the ten-day show will be able to try out a variety of on-water activities, ranging from kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding to more unusual pursuits like water walking.

Training in specialist skills will also be provided, including close-quarters yacht manoeuvring and blind steering a powerboat.

What’s more, Rockley Watersports will be running a daily timetable of seminars showcasing essential skills like escaping a capsize.

Finally, the pool will be used for expert demonstrations of new boating equipment, such as Bainbridge Marine liferafts, Rotinor dive scooters and Argus thermal imaging cameras.

Murray Ellis, managing director at British Marine Boat Shows, said: “At the show our visitors like to experience and participate in different boating activities. They really enjoy the educational and interactive elements that we offer.

“The Mediterranean Bay attraction at this year’s show will provide this as well as giving visitors the chance to learn, have fun and relax in the Mediterranean surroundings.”

To help create a Mediterranean atmosphere, the pool will be fringed by cafes and eateries, as the artist’s impression above shows.

Advance tickets to the 2016 London Boat Show are on sale now, with prices starting at £10 per adult.
